How to Clean a Projector Screen?

Just as the projector’s lens gets dirty, the screen needs to be cleaned as well. If the screen is not cleaned periodically, the dirt or debris does not just hurt the reflectiveness but leaves permanent stains as well. Therefore, you have to clean the projector screen regularly and carefully.

There are a million ways to clean the projector screen. If you are confused about what to put on the projector screen, here is how you can clean the screen to perfection.

How to Clean the Projector Screen?

What method of cleaning should be adopted depends on the type of screen you use.

Cleaning the Regular Projector Screen

If you use a regular projector screen, here’s what you have to do;

1. Dusting

Step one of the screen cleaning mission is dusting. You have to use a can of compressed air to dust the screen thoroughly.

2. Wipe off using the microfiber cloth

Now take the microfiber cloth and gently wipe off the screen. Ignore if there are any stains, as they need to be treated with rubbing alcohol. Scrubbing is not the right way.

3. Prepare the cleaning mixture

There is no need to invest in any expensive cleaning solutions. You can make it at home by mixing warm water and dish soap. The percentage of warm water is 95% and dish soap should be 5%.

4. Moisten the microfiber cloth and wipe off the screen

Moisten the microfiber cloth with DIY water and dish soap cleaning solution. With a light pressure rub on the screen.

If this does not work for you

If water and dish soap does not give you the desired results, you might have to use an alternative method.

Use the denatured alcohol instead of water and dish soap cleaning solution. The rest of the procedure would remain the same.

Cleaning the Ambient Light Rejecting Screens

Cleaning the ambient light rejecting screen is crucial yet difficult. The above-mentioned cleaning method does not work for ambient light-rejecting screens.

The surface of ambient light-rejecting screens is made up of the tiniest angled teeth, therefore if the right cleaning method is not adopted these teeth will be destroyed.

The ambient light-rejecting screen can only be cleaned using compressed air. If the screen is still not satisfactorily cleaned, use a soft bristle brush or microfiber cloth. You have to move the bristle brush or microfiber cloth gently in a circular motion.

It’s important to mention here that a bristle brush or microfiber cloth can only be used when the screen is breathtakingly dirty. Otherwise, it should be avoided.

The ambient light-rejecting screen should be cleaned regularly to not need to use a microfiber cloth or bristle brush.

Helpful Cleaning Tips

  • Keep the screens clean, and dust regularly to avoid dirt build-up.
  • Never leave the screen to air dry.
  • Pat the screen gently to prevent spotting.
  • Prefer microfiber cloth, however, if you do not have a microfiber cloth you can use soft gentle wipes as well.
  • The stains or spots on the screen should never be treated with harsh chemical solutions. Use rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip to get rid of them.
  • Do a thorough screen cleaning at least every 3 months.
  • Never scrub the screens
  • Do not use masking tape to clean the screen as it damages the screen instead of cleaning.

Conclusion

The regular projector screen should be cleaned with a microfiber cloth and a DIY cleaning solution(95% warm water and 5% dish soap).

Dust the screen and gently wipe the remaining dirt using the moistened microfiber cloth. The ambient light-rejecting screen should be cleaned by moving the soft bristle brush in a circular motion.
