Optoma HD26, a strikingly efficient DLP projector, has made headlines in the home theater projector market. Similarly, it is categorized as an inexpensive home theater projector, however, no matter what you like to call it, this projection unit can serve in multiple roles.

This DLP-based projector shares many commonalities with Optoma HD141X and BenQ HT1075.
In Optoma’s own words, it is a ‘super-sized home entertainment’, better suited for average living rooms with a degree of ambient light.
It may seem like a good bargain on paper, however, some users may have a problem with its limited connectivity and image quality.

Image Resolution
It has a native Full HD 1080p resolution for clearer, sharper, more detailed projection without compression or downscaling.
Moreover, the 25000:1 contrast adds a real depth to the image by enhancing dark and bright levels.
Brightness
It has 3200 lumens light output coupled with multiple image optimization technologies to watch entertainment content in different lighting conditions.
Plus, the projector has several modes with different brightness levels for users to choose from.
Color Accuracy
Due to the Brilliant Color and DynamicBlack technology, it produces stunning colors with magnificent image details. The integrated bright and accurate color wheel with superb color reproduction.
In 3D, the projector offers respectable performance with good definition and very little crosstalk. It supports HDMI 1.4 3D inputs for displaying 3D content from any source and DLP Link for glasses synchronization.
Sound
The powerful built-in 10W speaker complements the home theater experience with superior-quality audio.
Likewise, it produces enough sound for smaller rooms, requiring no additional speakers.
Design
It uses all-white plastic chassis with a blend of subtle curves and sharp angles. Moreover, the boldly protruding lens is placed a bit off-center.
Certainly, It does not have a sleek and stylish design, however, adequate for the price point.
You will get basic controls on the top to use in case the remote control is lost. Air vents at the sides, front, and rear improve the air circulation.
Connectivity
It has a wider connectivity panel with dual HDMI ports, with 1.4a 3D and MHL support. In addition, it features Audio Out 3.5mm, 12V trigger, 3D-Sync, and USB service.
It allows smart display by connecting tablets and smartphones using MHL to project content from these devices.
Although it does not have a support lens shift, the projector has handy zoom and keystone correction controls to adjust the image easily.
Limitations
- Input Lag – This projector has a longer input lag of 33 milliseconds which may not be fast enough for many games.
- Limited Zoom – The limited 1.1:1 zoom range gives only a few inches of leeway when adjusting images.
- Fan Noise – It has a significantly louder fan noise even in ECO mode (26dB). A person with sensitive ears may find it quite annoying and distracting.

Should You Buy Optoma HD26?
HD26 has many perks and flaws, however, if it was notably cheaper, it would have been quite easier to forgive its shortcomings.
Many competitors offer projectors with superior performance at the same price point.
Also, you can easily find better entry-level alternatives in the home theater market. On paper, it may look quite promising but it is just a no-frills projector. In some ways, the HD26 takes the lead with a VESA 3D sync port, anamorphic lens compatibility, and easy setup.
